Abstract
Applied biotechnology has emerged as a transformative discipline enabling sustainable solutions across industrial, environmental, agricultural, and medical sectors. Among its various branches, microbial biotechnology plays a pivotal role by harnessing the metabolic versatility of microorganisms for the production of value-added products, bioremediation, renewable energy, and industrial biocatalysis. Advances in genetic engineering, systems biology, and bioprocess optimization have significantly enhanced microbial performance, productivity, and process scalability. This review-style research article critically examines recent developments in applied microbial biotechnology, focusing on industrial bioprocessing, strain improvement strategies, enzyme engineering, and environmental applications. Emphasis is placed on integrating modern molecular tools with traditional fermentation technologies to achieve eco-friendly, cost-effective, and scalable biotechnological solutions. Current challenges and future perspectives for industrial translation are also discussed.
